914 - 3.8L DME | 915 WEVO TAIL SHIFTER CONVERSION
This little 914 2.0L four came down from Colorado for our "auto spa treatment". The customer wanted reliability & great performance for his state of Co. that had to adapt and perform in various altitudes and temperature conditions! Well there is an answer to that problem, the 3.2L & 3.6L air cooler DME engine conversion from PATRICK MOTORSPORTS.
Before the 914 was delivered our customer had decided that a 3.6L 964 DME engine coupled to a late ‘85 915 transaxle would be the drivetrain package. He received the estimate, we received a deposit, and the engine & transmission were prepared before the car was even here. Two technicians disassembled the 914 the day it was delivered in less than 6 hours allowing the customer to see everything and evaluate with us the chassis/foundation and create an entire build sheet for the project. We then started the restoration on the chassis, body work, harness, suspension, brakes, and interior.
The game plan for “the look” was to use a cool early PORSCHE color, and keep the cars simple clean lines. No GT flares, only lightweight GT bumpers, GT front style Oil Cooler only bigger & lightweight GT type valances front & rear. The color is early “JADE” green, with matte black trim. The trim and bumper tops we all shot in DuPont 2 stage matte clear over black. The “JADE” is also DuPont 2 stage, with the interior of the chassis, engine bay, belly, and all inner fenders painted with a color matched linear polyurethane (a special product we have used for over 15 years). The customer wanted a sleek look, so we fitted the 16”x7” 951 Fuchs alloys all the way around, and also finished them in a matte black powder coating. Take a look, more photos to follow.

We also installed our heavy duty throttle cable kit for the 914 6 conversions. This includes a special mounting tab and silicone fire sleeve. The kit comes with a length of plastic tubing that is used as a cable guide. The 964 and 993 have this built into the chassis, you will need to install this below the throttle rod keepers. This is a little bit of work but makes the Acton smooth and reliable.
