Lilac 914/6 GT Twin Plug 2.0L S 901 Tailshift Race Car Upgrade Conversion
Posted by PATRICK MOTORSPORTS on
This original 914-6 came to us for a complete restoration & 914 6 GT conversion. The car was stuffed in the back of a small U-Haul box truck without suspension.
The 2.0L engine was period correct and was completely blueprinted and updated with the 2.0L S 9.8:1 compression ratio piston and cylinder set. We also updated to big valve heads which required the intake valve pockets on the piston domes to be machined for proper valve clearance. Twin plugged of course, along with our special twin plug distributor system. The original 906 center feed cams that were supplied for the engine were spared for some more streetable/usable sport cams that gives the engine a broader powerband for (Not so peaky) drivability.
This engine is getting all the goodies! The 914/901 tail shift from this original 914-6 is still out for review, as many know this is not the best shift linkage for the 914, thus the 2 upgrades made by Porsche in only 3 years to the 901 side shift. Of course we have set it up with the Centerforce DF191198 clutch kit, and this has been computer spin balanced with the flywheel & entire engine package.
This car has received the full strip and all sheet metal repair rotisserie style. We built a street/race cage system throughout, and seam welded the entire chassis. We also added all steel 914 6 GT flares, composite GT front and rear deck lids, bumpers and rockers. The color was a customer favorite determined from day one, from the Dupont Hot Hues Line. "A Little Lilac".

This shot shows the car with the steel flairs welded on prior to finishing. As you can see there is very little metal work needed to get to the finished product. all our bodywork is completed with metal finishing and we use no fillers. Most body shops will get the metal repairs close then finish out with fillers. body filler will shrink and crack with time making the need for repairs in the future a costly and unnecessary job. it may cost a little more to do the repairs correctly the first time however overall you are money ahead to complete the repairs properly one time!!
This also has the complete roll bar, front and rear bracing installed. Patch work has been finished at the front bumper mounts

This shot shows the flairs tacked on. They are not installed with one continuous weld as the heat would warp the metal and make it almost impossible to get a perfect finished product without body filler. They are tack welded by welding in different spots front to back and then the welds are ground smooth and finished.
